This oceanfront custom home is located in the private community of Seminole Golf Club. The residence is adjacent to the private golf course and includes another one acre parcel, west of the residence. The original interior of the home was demolished, along with several exterior walls. The client wanted unobstructed views to the interior pool lagoon courtyard, and stunning ocean at the rear of the house. A full putting green with sand bunkers was designed and installed for the westerly views from the guest bedrooms.
The client wanted to blur the boundary between indoor & outdoor living space. A ninety degree pocket door was the first design challenge overlooking the pool lagoon. The exterior “corner wall” was cut ten feet to each side, then structurally reinforced for a new 90 degree sliding pocket door opening to the center courtyard. The bathroom was transformed with a Hinoki Ofuro bamboo soaking tub, walk-in rain dome shower by Aquabrass, with a new sliding glass door to the installed koi pond and IPE wooden bridge.
Another challenge we tackled for the client was to create easy access to the outdoors by adding automatic door openers. We used the company, Inmotion, for remote key access and Apple Phone access for all sliding doors by WinDoor. The Main Living Room and Lanai Room sliding doors were 16’-0” to 20’-0” in length; operated with a push of a button.
The Master Bedroom Wing had limiting views to the ocean. A floor to ceiling fixed glass panel was added with flanking hand carved shoji screen panels at the tilt & turn windows. The translucent golden strands panels and Kozo Paper, by eShoji, allowed the natural light to cascade across the bamboo floors. A full 8’x8’ circular hand carved headboard is backlit with LED lighting at the custom platform bed. The Master Bathroom view to the ocean was enlarged with a full sliding glass door showcasing a hand carved solid stone tub.
To authenticate the Asian feel, we added a full hibachi cooking grill centered to the south of the pool courtyard with seating to entertain fourteen guests. The onyx counter was backlit with light panels from Imagilux, which included a full length drink frost rail from Chill Rite 32. The west facing wall of the Habachi Grill area had a custom waterfall feature from LL Waterfall Design. The house also features three additional copper fire and water bowl rings from Backyard Blaze. The main Living Room had a three sided clear fireplace by Ortal Heat.
The “Zen House Beach Retreat” is a perfect getaway with unique Asian Transitional details of hand carved shoji doors panels and ceiling panels throughout the residence. All living spaces and each bedroom have intricate ceiling details with indirect lighting. The architecture and interior design is a true relaxing experience from the moment you climb the suspended curved entry staircase. If the home doesn’t take your breath away, the client’s large collection of Peter Lik photos will.
