Our “Riverfront High Rise Offices” was built while taking Foresight Energy public in the New York Stock Exchange.  The “Riverfront High Rise Offices” are located in Downtown St Louis, at the Metropolitan Square Building, which is located on the 26^th floor; which sits directly across from the St Louis Cardinals Stadium, the St Louis Arch and the Mississippi River.  The challenge with this space was to tell the story of longwall mining through the eyes of the owner within the architecture and the interior design. 

The views of the St Louis Arch emerge for the new Main Lobby Entrance & Boardroom as the existing 26^th floor is demolished.  The mixed media glass vertical art collaboration with Donald Fedorko at Improve Eyes is seen through the Lobby Entrance.   Local granite slabs, roof bolts, wire mesh and coal belt lines are laser cut into building materials to clad the floors and walls.  The longwall tunnels are immediately seen and a story unfolds for the operational guts of longwall mining.  A sixteen screen video wall, framed with steel panels from the mine site, is flanked on the opposite side of the Lobby.  To the left of the entrance, the Origin Falls water fall, is built into a custom full height coal seam wall.

Taking a company public is a long process of meetings and traveling.  The new office supported several breakout conference rooms with, Arktura Ceilings, Stretched Fabric cloud ceilings and full height magnetic glass writing walls for meetings.  The west wall of the Boardroom was constructed with switch light glass.  The glass panels are for privacy during video & conference calls with a turn of a light switch. The board room conference table is custom leather with an aluminum trough lined with coal, resembling the rail cars that ship from CN Railway.  Every detail of how to tell the story of longwall mining was seen even in the custom kitchen. Two corner offices were omitted from the final architectural plan for an employee lounge with full kitchen and island similar to an urban cafe. The floors and backsplash was lined with Sothern Illinois stone and hard hats used as art lighting for custom photography of the mines sites and employees.  The project was a great showcase of operational design and interior finishes.
